Why do you have advertising and sponsors?
We understand it can be annoying to have adverts appearing from time to time and, for aesthetic purposes, we would love to be able to run ExpatMoneyChannel without any advertising. Unfortunately that is not a realistic proposition. If we want to grow and maintain the site on a daily basis, then we need money to do pay salaries and reinvest. We have tried to minimise the level of advertising by encouraging viewers on our site to subscribe, but it takes an enormous amount of time and effort to run such a dedicated site and so accepting advertising and sponsorship is one way of ensuring that the site stays up and running. In addition, many of the adverts on this site will be offering products and services you need.
Is the information I read affected by advertising?
You can rest assured it is not. We will not be compromised by any advertising that appears on the site. The journalists working on the site have long track records in personal finance journalism and would not compromise their position by promoting any one company or its products because of advertising. The information you read has been researched and written from an independent viewpoint.
So why does a company you mention in an article also have an advert on the site?
The advertising and editorial functions are separate. A list of topics and issues we plan to cover is sent to all financial service companies. If they have a product or a service that fits in with a topic we are covering, then they may wish to advertise. Alternatively, they may simply like the concept of the website and advertise on a more long term basis, as they believe they have something to offer our target audience. This is how advertising works. The editorial team works independently on researching and writing articles and will interview a wide range of individuals and companies on each topic, regardless of whether they have advertised or not.
Do you check on whether companies advertising are regulated?
We do not have the resources to do a full check on each company that wishes to advertise. However, our policy is to only accept advertising from well known companies who are regulated or are part of an bone fide association. We will not knowingly accept advertising from an unregulated company. If you are concerned about an advertisement that appears on this site then contact us. In addition, you should always independently check that a company you are dealing with is regulated.
